Where’s mommy, where’s mommy?” and my day begins. My 2 year old broken record begging for his mother. His mommy, his mommy, who had been up all night taking care of "the screaming one," our 4 month year old, was asleep and would kill me if he woke her. So to get him to stop, I tickle him until his laughter is hysterical. Then I tell him, every time he asks he'll be tickled. So what happens, for the rest of the day he asks me “where’s mommy,” just to play and laugh hysterically. He's incredible!
Being a dad is pretty cool. I’ve only been doing it since 2010, but it has already become the best part of my life. My boys are so much fun and the oldest says the best things, the 4 month year old only really laughs/cries/coos at this point. In terms of my 2 year old, he must somehow know he is being cute, because the things he says are incredible. For instance, tonight at my mother in laws birthday party, we were all eating cupcakes and out of the blue he says, “Ellen, I just have to say, Happy Birthday.” First, Ellen is typically called Yia Yia, and second, he was completely seriously with cupcake all over his face followed by a gigantic smile. It was a great moment.
What’s the point of these small stories that to most are meaningless but still probably so familiar. I guess they are a reminder, that as we teeter on the so called “fiscal cliff” and are about to hit the “ceiling” of debt our country is in, that things aren’t so bad. Sure we all have tons of external worries and stuff that isn’t so positive going on, but if we focus on the people around us that really matter, embrace the small but incredible moments in our lives, and stay positive, 2013 will be a great year. So don’t worry, things will take care of themselves. Happy New Year
